Glenn E. Estess, Sr.

Glenn E. Estess, Sr. was born in Pike County, Mississippi. He earned a degree in chemistry with minors in Physics and Mathematics from TulaneUniversity in New Orleans, Louisiana. His wife Mary has a degree in Chemistry with a focus on Medical Technology from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama.
Mr. Estess is past chairman of trustees of the Birmingham, AL based Baptist Health Systems, then a multi-hospital health care system with approximately 10,000 employees. He is a Past President of the Birmingham Sales and Marketing Club; Past Director of the Better Business Bureau of Central Alabama; a Past Trustee for the Workmen’s Compensation Trust-Business Council of Alabama; and a member of the Board of Regents of the National Association of Personnel Consultants. In Florida, he served as chairman of the YMCA; the American Chemical Society; and the Arthritis Foundation.
Glenn is a member of the Rotary Club of Shades Valley (Birmingham, Alabama). He was a member of the Rotary International Board of Directors in 1990-1992; Rotary International Vice President in 1991-1992; a Trustee of The Rotary Foundation, 1993-1996; and Rotary International President during Rotary’s Centennial year, 2004-2005 and serves again as a Trustee of The Rotary Foundation, 2006-2010. He has been elected Chairman of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for 2009-2010.
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, the nation’s largest privately funded Scholarship program, is also deeply involved in humanitarian aid programs. While a Trustee of The Rotary Foundation he served one year as Chairman of the Finance Committee; Member of the Executive Committee, as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Programs Committee. In his leadership roles, Glenn has visited numerous humanitarian aid programs around the world. Rotary International is active in approximately 200 countries.
Glenn is recipient of The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service Award; The Rotary Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award and Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award. He has received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from a University in India and a University in Korea.
