Dr. Carol C. Adelman

Dr. Carol Adelman is a senior fellow and director, Center for Global Prosperity, at the Hudson Institute where she writes on economic development, foreign aid, global philanthropy, and international health. She publishes the annual Index of Global Philanthropy, the first comprehensive guide to private giving to the developing world.

 

As president of a leadership and management training company, featured in Fortune, People Magazine, and the New York Times, she teaches regularly at the Wharton Business School. She served as a career foreign service officer with USAID, living in Africa and later traveling throughout Asia and Latin America, managing foreign aid programs. Dr. Adelman served as a Presidential appointee in charge of U.S. foreign aid programs for Asia and the Middle East, and then ran aid to Central and Eastern Europe when the Wall fell.       

           

She is active in numerous non-profit organizations serving as Vice Chair of USAID’s Advisory Committee on Foreign Voluntary Aid, Vice chairman of the Atlantic Council, member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and past president of a non-profit educational charity, Capital Partners for Education, which provides scholarships and mentors to low-income inner-city youth in the Washington, DC area.    

           

She is the author of op-eds and articles appearing in the Wall Street Journal. New York Times, Foreign Affairs, the Lancet, British Medical Journal, and a book, The New International Regulatory Order: New Rules in a Changing World Order. A frequent speaker to business groups, international organizations, and academia, she has appeared on media talks shows including the Fox News, In The Money, CNBC, and the Washington Journal.   

           

Dr. Adelman received her Doctorate and Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, a Masters in foreign service studies from Georgetown University, and a B.A. from the University of Colorado, including a year’s study at Bonn University in Germany.
